Black Granite Worktop Ideas

Posted on: No Comments

This black and grey speckled nero impala granite was installed by worktopenvy.comWORKTOPENVY loves supplying black granite worktops because there are so many types and it’s so darned versatile. Black granite’s special among natural stone because it works exceptionally well both in modern and more rustic spaces. Here we see mid-grained African Nero Impala grey-and-black granite worktops elevating an oak farmhouse kitchen into a thing of beauty. Subtle pencil-rounded edge finishing mirrors the curves of the Aga range while the highly-reflective surface creates a sense of space. And best of all? This is beautifully affordable granite. Not that it’s the only option on the market. For really keen value and a superbly lustrous finish it’s difficult to look beyond Indian Black Pearl granite, which in our humble opinion is among the most underrated natural stones out there. Black Pearl has a slightly coarser grain than Nero Impala and sometimes carries hints of deep green and grey in its crystals, but enjoys overall uniformity and looks particularly nice with a recessed draining area like the one here. Then there are the lesser-known options like Blues in the Night, alias Angolan Blue, a material that’s flecked with gorgeous cichlid-blue nuggets of labradorite, a gemstone sometimes associated with the Zodiac signs of Leo, Scorpio and Sagittarius. Britain’s most popular black is probably Star Galaxy granite, which with its flecks of bronzite very much does what the name suggests; shimmers under direct light like a night sky (click here for more on using this stone in your home). Finally we have the ultimate in pure black granite Nero Assoluto, which looks stunning either polished or in a matte honed finish, which gives it a slate-like appearance. Granite – What’s Trending?

Gorgeous brown and graphite grey granite with matte antiqued finish installed for Hothe Fine Kitchens by WorktopEnvy.comWHITE quartz worktops and their black granite cousins are Britain’s best-loved kitchen stone work-surfacing – amassing more than 8,000 UK Google searches every month. But for all the beauty and durability of natural granite like Absolute Black or quartz brands like Silestone and Cimstone, there are myriad lesser-known alternatives. And here is one of WorktopEnvy’s top picks for something that little bit different – matte-honed Antique Brown granite. Of the hundreds of stones we supply, this is an incredibly tactile granite worktop that’s almost satiny to touch. Up close and personal, its understated yet vivid graphite-like patterning shimmers gunmetal-grey and silver. Here, this gorgeous Italian material looks timeless on cream Shaker units built bespoke by our friends at Hothe Fine Kitchens, who supply their superior hand-made products to the North West of England and North Wales. Director Sam Hothe said: “We wanted contrast between our units and granite worktops in this kitchen but were keen to avoid anything too stark. When we supply a kitchen we’re always thinking about adding textures for interest, so the Antique Brown was a natural choice. It fulfils the role of black granite but with a more gentle overall finish. We specified softened corners around the ceramic Butler sink and we’re really pleased with the results. It goes without saying that we have high expectations of our quartz and granite suppliers and the guys at WorktopEnvy meet those expectations.” WorktopEnvy’s aim is to provide a web-leading selection of natural and engineered stone for customers across the country to enjoy. In the past month we’ve installed quartz and granite worktops in London, Surrey, Essex, Kent, Merseyside, Northamptonshire, Manchester, Birmingham and Dorset – with our commercial work also nominated for a prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Awards gong. Add to that our website’s extensive Inspiration and independent style guide and it’s easy to see why WorktopEnvy.com is truly Britain’s granite and quartz worktop specialist. We make our worktops with love – and sell factory-direct. To learn more about our ordering processes or to get a quote click here – or Request a Call Back for a chat.

Worktops for a gong

Kenyan Blackwood Marble gorgeousness produced by WorktopEnvy.com for our commercial partners

WHETHER it’s white quartz stone worktops or black granite in a residential kitchen, or a high-end commercial project, WorktopEnvy loves to deliver. So today we’re enormously proud to announce that our superior stone-work is up for TWO gongs at the prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2013.  It’s not every day that one enjoys a champagne moment, but it’s easy to see why the inverted waterfall edge-detail of this expansive bar in the Luggage Room at London’s Grosvenor Square Marriott Hotel caught the RABD judges’ attention. And now we’re on a shortlist of just seven to win the Best Restaurant or Bar in a Hotel category. Crafted by our expert masons from Kenyan Blackwood marble, this five-tiered worktop is now being enjoyed by the discerning denizens of one of the capital’s hottest nightspots. Each layer, bonded precisely together, has a delicate rounded bull-nosed edge finish to create a functional piece of art. Our chairman William Evans worked alongside one of the best design outfits in the world, Fabled Studio, to produce this fabulous example of our trade. He said: “It’s great to be nominated but the truth is it was just another day’s work for us. We apply exactly the same standards of quality and attention-to-detail in every project we take on. Most of all I’m delighted for the stonemasons on my factory floor and the fitting teams who worked through the night to complete this project for Fabled Studio. Like us, Fabled Studio has high expectations of its work and insists its contractors exercise the same level of craft and care. They were a delight to work with.” The full Luggage Room project involved far more than simply making this beautiful bar. We also fabricated and installed a truly stunning art-deco-style fireplace and staircase and laid metre after metre of Turkish Lilac marble flooring, book-matched to radiate natural symmetry using techniques preferred by the finest violin makers. Our work has also helped another of our valued clients onto the Awards’ shortlist, this time in London’s Best Multiple Restaurant category. Star Galaxy granite worktops

large star galaxy granite island in surrey home by worktopenvy.com
THIS Star Galaxy
black granite island demonstrates beautifully the light-giving qualities of  high-gloss dark natural stone worktops. Positioned on hardy pale oak cabinets – lovingly fashioned by quality kitcheneers Amazing SpacesStar Galaxy’s intense polish reflects this family space like a mirror. When it comes to black worktops situated, like these ones, under a strong natural light source, we’ll always recommend granite over engineered quartz. That’s because igneous granite, formed of molten magma millions of years ago, is untroubled by Ultraviolet (UV), while the pigments that make quartz black can degrade under UV, causing a blanching effect over time. There’s also nothing that quite rivals the high polish of granite types like Star Galaxy, whose glassy finish and glinting flecks of bronzite look exactly as the name suggests they might – heavenly. Engineered quartz worktops, of course, are both doggedly durable and vividly versatile in their own right, but for the deepest lustre granite will always be king. Here WorktopEnvy’s skilled masons used clever low-visual-impact mitred jointing to make the box step – a brilliantly effective way to separate worktop areas. We also dreamt up some smartly discreet offset joints to integrate two hefty support pillars into this ambitious four-metre granite work surface design. The shaped hob splash-back completes a beautifully clean, natural look in this modern Surrey kitchen.  Well-sourced, professionally fabricated and fitted granite worktops will make a good kitchen great – and still look pristine in 20 years’ time (just follow our top tips on granite care folks!).
